The marked trail from Dilijan to Gosh village, extending 18.5 kilometers, continues from the Haghartsin-Dilijan route. This hike winds mostly through dense forests, with a mix of wide paths and narrow trails, occasionally opening up to clearings that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The trail is captivating in every season, thanks to its rich vegetation and changing landscapes.
The route starts in the center of Dilijan, across from the town amphitheater near the popular Matinov Spring. You’ll climb a set of iron stairs and walk through wooded areas before reaching the upper parts of the town, passing by the Dilijan Brewery. As you leave the residential area, the trail gradually climbs, gaining about 500 meters in elevation. The forested paths provide cool shade on sunny days, and in some places, the trail crosses small streams.
At around the 10-kilometer mark, the trail splits: continuing straight keeps you on the main route, while a left turn takes you to Parz Lake after about half a kilometer. Staying on the Armenian National Trail, you’ll climb a bit more through the forest before arriving at a large clearing, where you’ll be greeted by stunning views of blooming fields and the cliffs across from you. From here, the trail begins a gentle descent, eventually revealing Gosh village and the domes of Goshavank Monastery in the distance. The trail ends right in front of the monastery, where you’ll find grocery stores, a café, and a water spring nearby.
Water sources/information:
At the start of the trail, you’ll come across the Matinov Memorial Spring. Approximately 3.6 kilometers in, on the left side, there’s a pavilion with a water spring. You can find a mineral spring near Parz Lake and another one in Gosh village, just below the church.
Trail Notes:
While hiking through the forest, you might encounter large fallen branches or trees downed by lightning. After rain, sections of the trail can become quite muddy due to streams and runoff.
