This 21.4 km long trail is a unique connecting path between the two provinces of Lori and Tavush. Vast landscapes open up over Gugarats and Ijevan mountain chains. This section of the Armenian national trail goes through bold mountains and open fields with no forested areas. The trailhead sign is places inside the village Atan and it directs the way up towards the pastures. As you leave the village, the road passes by abandoned barn and a monument dedicated to the WWII.

The trail turns to the left as it reaches the intersection on the 5th km. Here you start an ascent towards the mountain ridge. After climbing up the steep hill a wide panorama over the historical Motkor area is revealed with the surrounding alpine meadows and mountains. The trail continues towards the right slope of the mountain where you can find active barns and temporary shelters.

On the other side of the mountain trail you can see the Ijevan mountains with their curvy gorges. Small villages likes Tsaghkavan, Sevkar and Aghbugha are visible from this angle. These settlements are located deep inside the river valleys, protected from cold winds. For this reason up to this day they serve as a winter settlement for the farmers. On the 17th km of a wider track, the trail turns down to the right and continues through a narrow path towards Aghbugha. The next trail connected to Okon is 6,6 km long.

Water sources/information:
After Atan, between the 3rd and 5th kilometers you can find several water sources on both side of the trail.

Trail Notes:
On the 3rd km point after Atan, on the left side of the road, you can find a picnic shelter with a water spring, fireplace, tables, small cupboard with old plates and cups. It has an area with a roof, where you can stop in case of rain, also the enclosed area is suitable for putting a tent.
