The Dsegh-Karinj trail extends the Chkalov-Dsegh route, covering a distance of 12.4 kilometers. Along this hike, you'll experience an elevation change of about 400 meters as the two villages are situated on opposite sides of a plateau, separated by the Martsaget Gorge. The trail takes you through fields, forests, and steeper rocky sections, offering a variety of landscapes that keep the hike visually engaging and manageable in terms of physical exertion.

The trail begins at the central square of Dsegh, passing by a sculpture-filled park and descending towards the Hovhannes Tumanyan House-Museum, which is located near the village's old church. From here, the trail winds through the narrow streets of the village, leading out to the fields and pastures surrounding Dsegh. This section offers breathtaking views of the Debed Gorge.

After hiking about 4 kilometers on relatively flat terrain, you'll reach the forested part of the trail, also known as the Gikor Trail. This section descends about 2 kilometers through the forest, passing by the ruins of an old chapel, khachkars, tombstones, large millstones, and the Gikor Spring. After the 6-kilometer mark, the trail begins to ascend. It crosses a bridge and then winds uphill towards the village of Karinj, situated on the slopes of Dzharsar Mountain. This part of the trail is steeper and more rugged. The hike concludes at the central crossroads of Karinj, where you can either continue on to the neighboring village of Marts or, on the following day, hike to the summit of Dzharsar Mountain.

Water sources/information:
Water sources are available in the villages of Dsegh and Karinj. Be sure to fill your bottles before setting out, as the springs along the trail may run dry.

Trail Notes:
In the summer, sections of the trail may become overgrown, making the path a bit more challenging to navigate.
