ANT2: Neghots-Hagpat
This is the continuation of the Akhtala-Neghots (ANT1) trail.
The hiking trail from Neghots to Haghpat is a fantastic journey through Lori region. This 12.6 km path takes you through hillsides, forests, and pastures, offering a balanced hiking experience. You can start at the trailhead in the center of Neghots, right in front of the community hall and the playground.
From the get-go, you'll notice the steep incline as you ascend, passing cozy houses and fruit gardens along a winding road. Once you've climbed a bit, you'll find yourself in an open field with stunning views over Neghots. As you continue, you' will traverse green meadows, passing beneath tall electric poles, with the Debed canyon and Akhtala village coming into view on the right.
After about 30 minutes on the plateau, you will descend through forests towards a stream, where you will come across a small workshop of stone masons. Beyond this, you will pass by a water spring and walk through forests dotted with abandoned cabins withhold wooden fencing. Crossing the stream, you will enter a forest with flower fields, offering picturesque views of the canyon slopes. Halfway through, you will encounter Aramayis's small house, where he lives with his dog and animals and had a substantial role in finding the trail. Continuing past his house, you will find another water spring before reaching Haghpat village. To get to Haghpat, you will move through another canyon and climb up to another plateau, eventually arriving on the old village road that leads to the main square, where you will find the monastery on the side.
Water sources
There's a water spring near the mason’s workshop down the gorge, and the second one is behind Aramayis's house
