Things to see

Sanahin Monastery
The trail between Alaverdi city center and Sanahin train station is a great option for an urban walk. Along this 4.3 km route, you can explore the well-preserved cityscape of what was once a major industrial hub. Most of the town's architecture dates back to the period between the 1920s and the 1980s. The hike begins in front of the medieval Sanahin bridge and follows the central avenue of Alaverdi. This walk is particularly fascinating for enthusiasts of urban architecture, abandoned spaces, and Soviet and modernist art.

You can wander off onto the side streets to discover more cultural, industrial, administrative, and residential buildings. Opposite the Sanahin bridge, you'll find the entrance to the abandoned copper smelter. The city was developed around this main industrial district, featuring a mix of Stalinist, Soviet modernism, Art Nouveau, Armenian neo-classical, and brutalist architectural styles. Despite this eclectic mix, Alaverdi has a distinctive character as an urban unit, characterized by its industrial heritage and a gothic, mystical ambiance.

Along the road, you'll find several grocery stores, water springs, and cafes. The trail ends in the Sanahin station district, which developed around the railway. Across the street from this area, you will see trail markers leading to Sedvi Monastery and Hagvi village.

Water sources
In several parts of the town, you will see water fountains and water-memorials.
