Tumanyan to Tsater
Tumanyan to Tsater
Things to see
Used by locals and monks centuries ago, this ancient trail takes you from the town of Tumanyan to the village of Tsater. Featuring breathtaking views of the Debed and Marts River gorges, this trail is part of the larger Debet Canyon trail network.
Starting at the marked trailhead on the main highway near Tumanyan, head up to Kobayr Monastery. Take some time to explore the complex and its surrounding khachkars (cross-stones) before continuing onto the rocks that lead to Tsater. While hiking this trail, pause to admire the beauty of the surrounding landscapes, including the Debed and Marts River gorges.
At the edge of Tsater, this trail intersects with the Transcaucasian Trail, where you can continue your hike into Georgia if you’re up for more adventure. Otherwise, you can keep exploring Armenia’s Lori region by hiking more trails in the Debed Canyon trail network. From Tsater, you can head towards the village of Kurtan via the Twin Fortresses trail or make your way to Dsegh along the Forty Children trail. Or head back to Tumanyan, where you can hike the Goats, Goats, Goats trail and beyond.
