Whispering Waterfall
This trail plunges deep into a gorge of vertical cliffs, sharp boulders and jagged terrain. At the end, a secret waterfall whispers the ancient secret of the forest. Can you hear it?

Please note that this trail has been changed for the 2023 season, no longer requiring numerous river crossings. The distance and time duration shown is for 1-way.

The trail begins at the abandoned railway tracks near the Dilijan National Park Visitor Center. As you cross the  tracks and descend into a gorge, you enter another realm. The sounds of the highway traffic are swapped for the sounds of birds; the artificial colors of concrete turn to shades of green; and the smell of the city is replaced by the blossoming trees. Listen to the forest from within or from the rest-point at the balcony-like plateau that punctures through the trees.

Follow the blazes and rows of colorful mushrooms, jumping across the stream and clambering up rocks. On your way up, watch out for what’s known as the Man in the Mountain, a natural formation in the cliff that looks like the somber silhouette of a man staring into the distance. Just up ahead are the waterfalls and the end of the trail. You will come across one hidden in a narrow gorge - don’t be misled by it into thinking this is the finish. Carry on a few hundred meters more to find the final hidden waterfall; a textured wall sculpted into modern-art by the river. Take a moment in the depths of this old forest to admire the detail of the landscape under the trees, before leaving and covering it with its blurred blanket of leaves.

This is a very nice trail. Taxi from the central Dilijan station is only 300 drams via Yandex. BEWARE that when you reach the first stream, turn LEFT, do not go up along the stream, that’s the wrong way.

Hard work but worth it. This is a challenging and wet trail with multiple waterfalls to see. Around every corner there is a new waterfall to see and enjoy. It finishes with a final waterfall that is about one-story high. There are several places where you need to climb steep wet rocks by a waterfall. You will need shoes with good soles and a strong grip on the rocks around you. A piece of rope would help if you have people with different levels of skill who want to make it to the end. It is in a valley so it is quite cool and green, but the first part along the old railroad is all in the sun so dress for sun and for shade. I wanted a pair of dry socks for the return trip! On the way up take the left stream both times when the stream splits. This is not very well marked.

We followed the route marked here. Going up the stream was hard, some parts could even be dangerous. The trail is interesting, all under the trees. The final waterfall is unimpressive. We returned through a different pathway, a lot easier and marked. It’s a route a bit to the east from the one marked here. It’s a lot faster without dangerous areas and wider views. Overall it was fun.

Nice trail, very quit, nobody there but some friendly pigs, mostly good marked, with the offline map easy to navigate. The new improved trail 2023 makes it much more easy. A bit slippery after the rain. Thanks to the trail maintenance people.

Great little hike! We walked from the western side of Dilijan to the start, so we walked along Tbilisyan highway for a little while then went left onto the old train tracks, was an awesome, easy and exciting start to the hike and once onto this route the path is good and obvious but was quiet and beautiful! Lovely little walk overall, would recommend if you want something quiet, wooded, not too challenging, and with nice views of Dilijan!

Great hike. well marked, exciting climbs. Rocks slippy at points but take your time and it's fine.
