This trail starting from the main road leading up to Haghpat village takes you to the fantastic viewpoint of Kayan Berd, a fortress built in the 10th century. The Berd lies between the monasteries Haghpat and Sanahin, strategically built at the edge of the ridge between two canyons above the Debed River.
The fortress stretches for about 120 meters and has 15 semi circular defense towers. You can see the ruins of the Surb Astvatzatzin church "Holy God Mother", also known as Dsevank.
The start of this trail is accessible through green gates of a roadside business and then you cross an ancient bridge over the river and coming to a fresh-water spring. This short trail will take you up an old pathway to the fortress, but keep in mind the distance and time is one-way and the journey back will take you another 45 minutes to an hour.
NOTE: it is possible to connect this trail to the Sanahin to Haghpat Monasteries trail!
